Team
Building program for Penske. Penske chose
Lake Placid as the site of their annual management conference and asked Team Concepts to facilitate a team building and leadership training day as part of the week’s activities. In keeping with
Lake Placid ’s Olympic theme, we created a customized program that featured Olympians Dan Lyons and Carol Bower.
Penske chose a combination of our Team Olympic Games and Team Champion programs. Thirty teams competed against each other in simulated Summer and Winter Olympic events, collecting points as they went along. The capstone team building event of the day, however, was for all of the teams to actually participate and compete in the sport of rowing. The serene Mirror Lake hosted the rowing event, which featured national team level coaches teaching leadership lessons right on the water while teaching the Penske teams how to row. The top six teams competed in the day’s finale: The Penske Regatta!
Team Concepts’ Carol Bower, one of only nine
US women to ever win an Olympic gold medal in the sport of rowing, presided over the awards ceremony. Held at the beautiful Crowne Plaza Resort Golf Club, which overlooks the mountains and the 1980 ski jump, cocktail hour was punctuated with raucous cheers and chants as Carol handed the winning team their three foot high trophy. Lyons joined Carol to give every participant a customized medal for their day of achievement.
Team Champion is a premier leadership training and team building program that uses rowing as a metaphor for building high performance teams. This program can accommodate groups from four to two hundred people, and can be held anywhere where there is a body of water nearby. Since 1995, Team Champion programs have been an integral part of corporate, government, non-profit, and educational organizations’ training.
